Hello, my name is Knut. I am a true Norwegian and I teach my mother tongue in private lessons online. On this page, you will find some information about my teaching method.
Interactive Norwegian classes
I teach in an interactive way, by using video conference software. It is like an advanced video call, and there are endless possibilities.
There will be a strong emphasis on oral practice during our online lessons. However, reading and writing are also very important parts of the course.
We will be able to look at any text, e-book or website together. We will use a digital whiteboard to write words and sentences, and this works in a fully interactive way. We can also share short videos or do some listening exercises. The possibilities are endless, and the course will always be for you, at your level.
Norwegian teaching materials
A textbook is of great help when learning Norwegian as a foreign language. Using an e-book, the teacher and the student can look at the same page together and share written comments.
Kunnskap.no offers online resources where the textbook is an integrated part of the online course. There are texts, grammar exercises, sound files, pronunciation exercises, and more. NorskPluss A1.A2 is for beginners, while there are other courses for the higher levels.
However, printed books are still popular, and useful. I have also worked a lot with textbooks from the editor Cappelen Damm. They are available in both printed and electronic versions, and they cover all levels up to B2. For a faster progress (A1 + A2), we can also work with the online course NoW from NTNU.
Sometimes we can choose to go for another textbook, but we would always need to discuss that before starting. I often also work with additional resources, like news articles, videos, music and more. This is especially the case at the more advanced levels.
Supplementary online resources
The course is organized for you, at your level, and it is adapted to your needs. As a customer, you will also have access to extra online resources. They provide you with supplementary explanations to the textbooks, including translations. The extra resources on the customer pages make it possible to follow the lessons in a more autonomous way.
During the lessons, we will spend time to help you master Norwegian pronunciation. However, you can also exercise between the lessons. The online resources provide you with explanations, sound files and videos that can help you more easily master the sounds of the language. Below, you see a video where I explain the Norwegian vowels. However, as a customer, you will have access to a lot more resources.
